Prof. Dr. Malik Muhammad Mahmud Al-Awan

A multi- disciplinary scholar of Islamic jurisprudence, Dr. Al- Awan has been engaged in Islamic Finance for the last thirty years. He is a senior banking and insurance executive and is a practicing attorney of International Law with a broad specialization in Islamic Contract Law and Commercial Procedure. He is a recognized trainer of Sharia scholars and serves on the governing boards of a number of Islamic organizations in Asia and North America. Presently serving as Dean of the Faculty and Chief Academic Officer at INCEIF, he was previously Head of the Sharia Faculty and Distinguished Professor of Islamic Finance. He has been a Professor of Finance at top American universities and is a Professor Emeritus at Pakistan's National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST). He served as the Vice Chancellor and Provost at Global Studies Institute in Massachusetts from 1996 to 2006. Professor Al- Awan completed his academic training in the Quran, Hadith, and the history of the Caliphate under the guidance of top Islamic scholars of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia during the 1950s and the Sixties. He majored in Classical Arabic Literature and Research Methodology for his 1970 B.A. from Punjab University before receiving his Masters in Comparative Economic Systems and Development Finance in 1972. He completed his L.L.B. in Islamic Jurisprudence and Contract Law at Punjab University before being awarded an L.L.M. degree in Comparative American Law from Boston University Law School in Boston, Massachusetts.

He started his professional career as a Research Fellow in Monetary Economics at Clark University, Massachusetts in 1973 where he was awarded a Ph.D. in International Finance in 1976. His first papers in Islamic Finance Methodology were published in the United States in the 1970s. His highly acclaimed book on Foreign Capital & Development Process was published by University Press of America, Washington, D.C. in 1977. He served as Presidential Adviser to Government of Pakistan, Ministry of Production, in 1978 and served as Visiting Professor at Pakistan Institute of Management. Dr. Al- Awan is a recognized authority in Technology Management and Economics of Innovation with numerous publications over the last thirty years. He has been a founder of a number of high technology companies listed on NASDAQ and other stock exchanges. He was elected President and Chairman of the Board of Governors of Western Massachusetts International Trade Association in 1992.Because of his long standing contributions to the telecom industry, he was elected as President of New England Fiber Optic Council in 2004. More recently, he has been President and Chief Executive of Regional Technology Corporation, an organization devoted to regional economic development. He has served as Chairman of the Board from 1998 to 2002 at Technical Communication Corporation, a NASDAQ Company involved in secure communications. Prof. Dr. Al-Awan serves on the board of several banking and insurance companies in the United States and has been President / CEO of Sturbridge Insurance Corporation, USA for over ten years.
