Mohammed Amin MA FCA AMCT CTA (Fellow)
Mohammed Amin (known as "Amin") has specialised in tax for over twenty five years. His principal subject matter speciality for over a decade has been the taxation of foreign exchange, derivatives and corporate debt, and for four years he led the PwC UK Finance and Treasury Network. More recently, he has developed a special interest in Islamic Finance, and is now PwC's UK Islamic Finance leader.
Amin's clients are primarily retail banks and insurance companies, but he also advises some multinational engineering companies, as well as some family companies.
In addition to his professional work, within PwC Amin also: is an elected member of PwC's Supervisory Board and serves on the firm's audit committee.
Externally Amin: is a Council member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT), serves on the Technical Committee of the Association of Corporate Treasurers (ACT) and is a member of the HM Treasury Islamic Finance Experts Group, established by the Economic Secretary to the Treasury to advise the Government on Islamic finance strategy
Amin graduated in mathematics from Clare College, Cambridge. His professional qualifications are: fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales and associate member of the ACT and fellow of the CIOT.
Amin's CIOT fellowship thesis on "A detailed review of the new UK tax rules on corporate debt" was awarded the CIOT medal for the best fellowship thesis submitted in 1999.
He regularly contributes articles on taxation for "The Treasurer" and other UK professional magazines, and wrote the UK chapter of "The Taxation of Equity Derivatives and Structured Products" published by Palgrave Macmillan. As part of Amin's Islamic Finance speciality, he has written the Alternative Finance Arrangements section of the LexisNexis Butterworths Finance Act Handbook for 2005 - 2007, and the corresponding section in Simon's Direct Tax Service.
Amin was recently included in the judging panel for the Muslim Power 100, a list of the hundred most influential Muslims in the UK, as well as being included in the list itself.
Away from work, Amin is a keen chess player, both in person and via the Internet. He has also been involved in chess organisation for many years, and served as Finance Director of the British Chess Federation during the mid 1980's when the BCF staged the world chess championship. Amin also has a one-dan grade at the Japanese board game of go. He was recently elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce.
